Arsenal Move Top of Premier League with Statement Win over Brentford

Impressive Win Continues Gunners' Unbeaten Streak

Kai Havertz Saves the Day for Ramsdale

London, England - Arsenal moved to the summit of the Premier League standings on Sunday, March 10, 2024, after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium.

In a match where Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale looked shaky, it was Kai Havertz who stepped up to score the only goal of the game in the 57th minute. The German midfielder capitalized on a defensive lapse by Brentford and fired the ball into the net from close range.

The result marked Arsenal's eighth consecutive league win and moved them two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. It also extended the Gunners' unbeaten run to 13 matches in all competitions.

Ramsdale, who had previously kept clean sheets in both of his previous encounters with Brentford this season, was relieved to have Havertz's goal to thank for the three points. The England international had been at fault for Brentford's best chance of the game, fluffing a clearance that allowed Yoane Wissa a clear sight of goal. Fortunately for Ramsdale, the Brentford forward's effort crashed against the crossbar.

Despite the win, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted that his team had not been at their best. "We didn't play well," Arteta said. "We were sloppy in possession and didn't create enough chances. But we showed great character to grind out the win.".
